Follow up times for common procedures

 

(These are a guide and may change dependent upon the complexity of surgery)

Following joint replacement surgery patients are assessed clinically for pain and overall function. They are also asked to complete a questionnaire (including an Oxford Hip/Knee Score and Visual Analogue Scale for Pain /Satisfaction).

Grading for Oxford Hip Score

Satisfactory joint function. may not require any formal treatment.
Mid-Moderate hip arthritis. Consult GP for assessment + ? X-ray. Exercise, Wt loss, NSAIDs
Mod-severe artritis. Consult GP for assessment + X-ray. Consider referral.
Severe arthritis. need for surgical intervention. ortho referral required.

All data is analysed and used to evaluate the result of surgery. This allows Mr Hartwright to regularly audit his performance.
